Many travelers ask us when the best time is to visit Tanzania. The answer is … there is not one right answer. It depends on what you want to see, where you want to go, your budget and interests. Please find a comprehensive guide on when is the best time to visit Tanzania here.
Dry Season (June to October & December to February): These months are ideal for safaris and beach visits due to the pleasant weather and excellent wildlife viewing opportunities. However, expect higher hotel rates and more crowded parks and attractions.
Mid Season (March & November): This period offers a balance of moderate hotel rates and fewer tourists. The weather can be variable, and some attractions might have limited availability (due to rains), but you still get great wildlife sightings and a more relaxed safari experience
Wet Season (April & May): Perfect for budget-conscious travelers, the low season features the lowest hotel rates and the least crowded parks. The heavy rains make the scenery vibrant and lush, but travel plans can be affected by the weather.

Machame Gate (1,800m) – Machame Camp (2,835m)
Your Kilimanjaro adventure begins as you drive to Machame Gate, passing coffee farms and local villages. The trail leads through a lush tropical rainforest, where you may spot colobus monkeys and exotic birdlife.
After a 5–6 hour trek, you reach Machame Camp, set at the edge of the forest and heath zone. This is your first night on the mountain, so hydration and rest are essential.
Machame Camp – Shira Camp (3,839m)
Today’s climb is steeper as you leave the rainforest behind and enter the moorland zone. You stop at Picnic Rock, where stunning views of Kibo Peak and the Shira Plateau reward your efforts.
After lunch, you continue to Shira Camp, surrounded by wide-open landscapes and dramatic volcanic scenery. Optional acclimatization walks are available to help your body adjust to the altitude.
Shira Camp – Lava Tower (4,630m) – Barranco Camp (3,950m)
This is a key acclimatization day on your Kilimanjaro Machame Route climb. You hike to the Lava Tower, where you stop for lunch at high altitude before descending to Barranco Camp.
The descent helps your body adapt and offers incredible views of towering glaciers and the iconic Barranco Wall, which rises dramatically above your campsite.
Barranco Camp – Barafu Camp (4,645m)
After breakfast, you tackle the famous Barranco Wall — a fun and rewarding scramble with panoramic views of Mount Meru and Kibo Volcano.
The trail continues through the Karanga Valley, eventually leading to Barafu Camp, your final base before summit night. You’ll enjoy an early dinner and rest before the midnight ascent to the top of Africa.
Barafu Camp – Uhuru Peak (5,895m) – Millennium Camp
Around midnight, your summit push begins. Under a sky full of stars, you climb steadily to Stella Point, then continue to Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa.
